I have a favorite book to share with you! A Place of Quiet Rest: Finding Intimacy with God Through a Daily Devotional Life by Nancy Leigh DeMoss. This book flipped a switch in my head about my quiet time with God. The most important point I read… My time alone with God is not an option. Once I got that, my focus and my intentions changed. Rather than seeing devotions as something to “fit into” my day, they became the foundation on which my day needed to start. Rather than focusing on what highlighters and journal to use and Continue Reading
Consequences
We can’t hide anything from God. It’s easy to forget that, isn’t it? Every once in awhile I think that if I I mess up and don’t talk to God about it, He won’t find out. That’s just plain silly. Why do we do that? I guess it’s like a little kid who has taken a cookie when his mother said “No.” If he runs and hides behind his bunk bed to eat it, he assumes his mom won’t find out. And then everything will be OK. But God is God. Nothing gets past him. He knows everything. So here’s what I’ve learned… When I have sinned, I need to Continue Reading
God can restore what is lost
Following-up on Wednesday’s thoughts… Imagine what it was like to be Job’s friends. Watching him lose so much. (What do you say to someone who has just lost ten children!) We learn in the book of Job that the counsel and conversations Job’s friends provided were not always very helpful. I bet they thought they were doing the right things—trying to move Job through his grief. But they also wanted to help Job feel better so their upside down world could go back to normal. Their words and impatience were not what Job needed. Job Continue Reading
Wanted: Peace and quiet
When my sisters and I were young, we’d ask mom and dad each December what they wanted for Christmas. Mom’s response for several years was, “Peace and quiet.” (What does that tell you about my sisters and me?) So one year we decided to give mom peace and quiet. (It never dawned on us to actually give her a home with a little less energy and noise in it!) We cut two life-size people out of cardboard, colored them in clothes, and provided each with a name tag. One was named Peace. The other, Quiet. We thought it was hilarious; not sure Continue Reading

A New You Created by Consistency!
Do you want some things to be different in 2012? Assuming your answer is “Yes!”… Here’s the scoop! Determine what you will DO differently and then CONSISTENTLY do those things! My business coach, Mark LeBlanc, reminds me about this in every coaching session and every Growing Your Business program he facilitates. Our lack of success is typically for one or more of these reasons: 1. Lack of clarity 2. Lack of congruency 3. Lack of consistency. It is NEVER due to lack of commitment. I think we all know how earnest our Continue Reading
ONE Person Makes the Difference
One comment. One phone call. One note. One visit. One hug. Consider the moments that have mattered most to you. Frequently, they are initiated by “one (fill in the blank).” Christmas is about celebrating the birth of our Savior, and the love He brought to our world. During this Christmas season, in the busy-ness of preparations, will you join me and do ONE THING?... One word of encouragement to someone who is sad. One phone call to someone you haven’t connected with lately. One letter thanking someone for her gift of Continue Reading
Fit, Fun, and Fabulous
So I joined a Get Fit Boot Camp at my local YMCA. Good grief. I must have really been feeling motivated to kick some butt when I did that! And now that motivation needs to turn into action. Ooftah. When I work out on my own, or with a trainer, I think I’m doing quite well. How do I know? Everything hurts and I thank God for every breath I’m still able to take. And I’m only horizontal when the trainer tells me to get on the floor. But now there are people to compare myself to – others in the Boot Camp. And let me tell Continue Reading
