Don’t Give Up. Have Faith.

May 9, 2023 by Gaye Lindfors

Don’t Give Up. Have Faith.

I wonder what kept some of our faith heroes from rolling their eyes at God. Like when God told Noah, “So make yourself an ark...” I think I would have muttered a quick, “Wait. What? You’ve got to be kidding me.” But “Noah did everything just as God commanded him.” And when God appeared to Abram, who with his wife Sarai so badly wanted a child. God told him to “Look toward heaven, and number the stars, if you are able to number them...So shall your offspring be.” (Abram was 99 years old; Sarai was 90.) I think I may have laughed Continue Reading

It’s Time to Dance

This is for you. If your perfect evening out is a gathering of dozens of friends who are all your bestie, where no one worries about how late it is, and you get absolutely giddy about the chance to engage in several conversations at the same time because, you know, there’s so much to talk about … this note is for you. And if your perfect evening out is gathering with a few close friends to catch up and laugh, where small talk quickly turns to heart-felt conversations … I’ve got you covered. And, of course, if you’re somewhere in Continue Reading

In a Rut? Try Something New

March 14, 2023 by Gaye Lindfors

In a Rut? Try Something New

Tired and gloomy are horrible roommates. They should not be permitted to settle in our hearts, hang curtains, and make themselves at home. Here’s the deal … It’s the middle of March and we Minnesotans are expecting yet another blizzard, with wind that whips sideways, icy streets, and temperatures that are … cold. Really, really cold. During the days that feel gloomy and life feels harder, it’s easy to start to feel listless. Tired. And when we feel listless and tired, it’s easy to get into a rut. We become very comfortable doing Continue Reading

Life is good and God is faithful

January 30, 2023 by Gaye Lindfors

Life is good and God is faithful

Life is good and God is faithful. And … ooftah. Sometimes I whisper, Really? Is life good and is God faithful? Then I say out loud, Yes. Really. It is and He is. For great is his love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever. (Psalm 117:2) One of the really cool things about this amazing God is that how we feel doesn’t change who He is. Because He is God, He is faithful. And because He is faithful, life is good. But I bet you’ll agree with me here … some days it’s just tough to stay in synch, right? It’s Continue Reading

A New Chapter

January 17, 2023 by Gaye Lindfors

A New Chapter

Oooooh! Encouraging words for you here! When your life starts to look unrecognizable, When you press your hands against your closed eyes and whisper, “How did we even get here?” When you feel like you’re the only one who can’t get her ducks in a row, Remember this … Nobody has their act together all the time. Everybody’s got somethin’. We all have chapters in our story that we don’t share or post or read aloud. Most of us are still trying to find our ducks—getting them in a row is for another day. And … We are loved by a Continue Reading

My Personal Hallmark Movie

December 8, 2022 by Gaye Lindfors

My Personal Hallmark Movie

The season is here, my friend. And there’s no turning back. It’s the season of … Hallmark. Holiday. Specials. Now I like a good sappy, cry-til-your-eyes-are-puffy and your face-is-blotchy movie like everyone else. (“Everyone else” wouldn’t include my husband Steve, though. He would rather read a book. Or shovel the snow. Or do almost anything else.) But sometimes, these shows are just a bit too much. Everything always seems so…Good. Nice. Not real. In the movies, the young woman who is surrounded by clutter and can’t clean Continue Reading

If God Sent You a Note

November 9, 2022 by String Marketing

If God Sent You a Note

God’s Word consistently tells you how much He cares about you. That He is with you. I think if He sent you a note today, it would look like this … Good morning, my precious daughter. It’s a new day today. I created it for you! I painted the sunrise and lifted it over the horizon to remind you that there are good things waiting for you, and I will be with you every single moment. I want to give you everything you need to experience joy and hope and peace. Let’s experience today together, OK? When good things happen to you, I will Continue Reading

Time to Let Them Go

November 2, 2022 by String Marketing

Time to Let Them Go

During the last few weeks, memories from two specific seasons have rented rooms in my brain. It’s been one year since my pancreas got really angry and I spent a few days in the hospital trying to figure out what ticked it off. This memory has decorated its rented room with posters that say, “If only I had …” When I walk through that room, I get frustrated with myself. The other rented room in my brain looks different. The room is smaller, and handwritten notes are placed around it. The renter is the memory bank of the 7-year season Continue Reading

Make Room for the Good

October 26, 2022 by String Marketing

Make Room for the Good

Along with replacing the tank tops in our closet with sweatshirts and flannels, the Fall season invites us to cleanse, purge, start again, and “finish the year strong!” (I’m a little over the whole “finish the year strong” thing. I’m just focusing on finishing today strong. Because my “strong” needs a nap.) A change of season does seem to signal a time to reflect and consider what the next few months could look like though. A time to start again. And that can be healthy. But it’s easy to mess this up. How? We believe that Continue Reading

Soul-Soothing Plan for the Summer

July 14, 2022 by Gaye Lindfors

Soul-Soothing Plan for the Summer

It’s summer, and that means the heat index could be maxed out so everything is wilting, or it could be raining cats and dogs with thunder and lightning thrown into the mix. (I wonder who came up with the phrase raining cats and dogs. What does it even mean? OK. Back to our regularly scheduled program.) Just for a moment, let’s imagine that it’s a perfect, beautiful summer day. There’s no humidity so your hair isn’t frizzing or going limp. The sun is warm, but the cool breeze invites you to tilt your head back and close your Continue Reading

Your Whatever Matters

June 23, 2022 by Gaye Lindfors

Your Whatever Matters

Whatever. It’s a word that sometimes comes from our mouth when we are … Tired of the conversation. Reluctant to discuss the conflict. Walking away. Oh my. I can see me in some of those whatever moments! Whatever usually comes out as a disappointed whisper when I’m walking away from the person who just doesn’t understand that what I’m saying is right and he is most definitely not right and I’m too tired to argue and the conversation just doesn’t seem worth the effort. My back is turned, and my hand is waving away the moment. Continue Reading

Stand Up and Step Away

November 1, 2018 by Gaye Lindfors

Stand Up and Step Away

(Remembering really fun moments from a few years ago …) The cable was as thin as my confidence that it could actually bear my weight. I looked across the ravine to where my landing place would be, and I looked down into the ravine where I did not want my landing place to be. And then I just shook. Good grief. I was zip lining. Now just let me say… For those of you who have done this, and the experience was not fearful and only exhilarating…I applaud you. High-five. Atta’ girl. I’m impressed. Really. But my first Continue Reading

Today Will be a Great Day

May 25, 2018 by Gaye Lindfors

Today Will be a Great Day

OK. So here’s the deal. From my heart to yours. Isn’t it time we stop saying stupid stuff to ourselves? (“You really are a mess, aren’t you? Uggh. Nothing will ever change—why even try? I’m just tired of everything. Nothing good is ever going to happen again. This mess will never get fixed.”) Stupid stuff that isn’t true and isn’t helpful. Instead, how about if we start speaking life and hope into our lives? We can do that, you know. Even those of us who are Midwestern Scandinavians who tread lightly when it comes to lifting Continue Reading

Time for Something New?

April 13, 2018 by Gaye Lindfors

Time for Something New?

On most days, it’s just a simple pair of workout leggings. You know. The spandex kind that I should never ever ever wear in public with a short top. The kind that holds everything in tight and you actually feel like there is no more fat to jiggle. That kind of simple leggings. But last Tuesday morning, those leggings became a little more than that. They were a statement to myself. You’ve probably heard that we’ve had a verrrrryy long winter here in Minnesota. And as I write this little note in mid-April, we’re waiting for another Continue Reading

Live Your Story Well

February 22, 2018 by Gaye Lindfors

Live Your Story Well

Wouldn’t it be cool if we each had a ghostwriter writing our life story? If all we had to do was wake up and follow the script that was written for us? The ideal day script filled with only happy scenes that tells us exactly what to do, where to go, what to wear, how to act, what to eat, who to see… you get the picture, right? But, nope. We write our own stories. We are the playwright, producer, stagehand, director, costume designer, and lead character in the story we write each day. (I think “costume designer” is the role that Continue Reading

Changing the Words

July 21, 2016 by Gaye Lindfors

Changing the Words

I love words. And I am tired of words. One reason for this weariness is that I’m finishing the writing on my next book, and everything I write sounds like blah, blah, blah. The bullies inside my head are not sending me feedback messages with smiley faces and pink hearts! (Oh, writing is so humbling!) I know this is part of the process…but ooftah. A bigger reason for this weariness, though, is because the world just seems to be filled with so many words. I watch the news, read the papers, check in on Facebook, and the words are Continue Reading

The Synch Swimmers

July 11, 2016 by Gaye Lindfors

The Synch Swimmers

Yup. I’ve got the fever. Olympic fever. And I’m counting the days ‘til Rio. My favorite event? Synchronized swimming. I don’t think it even shows up in prime time – it’s not a big fan favorite – but watching those ladies swim in synch actually makes me...gleeful. I tried it once, you know. My friend Lynn and I decided we’d give it a shot. Good grief. Whatever were we thinking. We selected the hyped-up music, created a dazzling routine, donned the colorful swim caps, and performed for a group of friends in a hotel swimming Continue Reading

Hanging By One String

February 10, 2016 by Gaye Lindfors

Hanging By One String

It was a freak accident. Twenty years ago. Our good friend, Patti, had just moved into an adorable townhouse that sat on the edge of a golf course. She was sitting in a lawn chair enjoying the summer sun when the you-can’t-make-this-stuff-up event happened. A golf ball hit very hard from somewhere on the green went way off course and landed… On her eye. The result? The eye was struck by such force that they had to remove everything inside the eye. They saved the retina and the cornea. But they implanted a lens, attaching it with Continue Reading

Doing Great Things

June 3, 2015 by Gaye Lindfors

Doing Great Things

Great things. Actions that change someone’s life. That change our communities. That make our hearts smile. Let’s do them, OK? Let’s do Great Things this summer. Our pace changes during these few months. It seems easier to breathe. (At least it does here in Minnesota when we don’t have to worry about icicles forming inside the wool scarf that wraps around our nose!) Days are longer and we find more time away from our usual routine. We’re more likely to connect with people in person – reunions, vacations, trips to the Continue Reading

Don’t Think So Hard: Just Do It

May 25, 2015 by Gaye Lindfors

Don’t Think So Hard: Just Do It

The lady with the easy laugh standing next to me chuckled and said… Your feet are flat on the ground, Gaye. You don’t have anything to worry about. We were watching a few of our fellow campers from The Alley Church Retreat navigate across the high cable. Well actually, I had to turn away because looking up at them swaying in the wind made me a bit nervous. Oh. My. Word. To say I was impressed with their courage and strength is putting it mildly. These ladies were amazing! And once they climbed up the pole and shimmied across Continue Reading

You Matter

March 18, 2015 by Gaye Lindfors

You Matter

A few months ago when I was reworking my website, I thought and prayed long and hard about what I wanted readers to know. And the key message boiled down to the first two sentences I used on my Home Page: If we were sitting in a little café getting to know each other, I’d put my hand on your arm and whisper this to you…Your life matters. No one else can be you, and that makes you extraordinarily significant. Some of us don’t mind being seen on stage or greeted with big embraces or acknowledged with lots of attention. And others of us Continue Reading

A Place to Relax

A Place to Relax

Alone… Our shoulders are not big enough to carry what we think we must. Our emotions are too human to care as deeply as we think we must. Our perspectives are too limited to make all the decisions we think we must. We don’t need to live Alone. Continue Reading
