Wanted: Peace and quiet

When my sisters and I were young, we’d ask mom and dad each December what they wanted for Christmas. Mom’s response for several years was, “Peace and quiet.” (What does that tell you about my sisters and me?) So one year we decided to give mom peace and quiet. (It never dawned on us to actually give her a home with a little less energy and noise in it!) We cut two life-size people out of cardboard, colored them in clothes, and provided each with a name

A Prayer on Father’s Day

Dear God, We don’t get to pick our fathers. Many of us have dads who care for us, provide for us, and love us. Some of us have fathers who are absent. And some of us don’t know our fathers. Thank you for being a Father who CHOSE us to be his children. Thank you for being a faithful Father. A Father who ALWAYS wants the very best for us. A Father who will NEVER let us down. On this Father’s Day, we pray for the millions

Someone cares about you

Hi, Friend. This is on my heart… If you are hurting tonight, wondering when the next disappointment is going to happen… If your life just isn’t turning out the way you thought it would… If you aren’t sure where to turn and surfing the net is just getting boring… Please remember this… God loves you. And that is a fact. Tell Him about your sadness, frustrations, and anger. He will listen. He cares. He will help. Give Him your heart and all your hurts. He will soothe

Today, I will change the world

I have a new Girlfriend. (Love it!) Her name is Monica. Her mom, Lorrie Lievesay, is the Director of Training for Laurie Beth Jones, Inc. We’ve been friends for years. Monica sent me a note last week after I shared a picture of a poster my mom has up in her apartment for encouragement. Monica has a heart for God, for the world, and for loving others to Jesus. She’s only 16 years old—and she’s living out her faith in the real world. Monica has several posters

Why do I pray?

Why do I pray? To worship God? To ask for guidance? For healing? To be obedient? To see God’s miracles? To bless others? For my own needs? Yes… And… Jesus says, “Come to me…” (Matthew 11:28) Oswald Chambers, in My Utmost for His Highest (June 11th), writes: “Personal contact with Jesus alters everything. Be stupid enough to come and commit yourself to what he says. The attitude of coming is that the will resolutely lets go of everything and deliberately commits all to Him.” Why do I

Prayer: Thank you for your presence

Dear God, As a new week begins, I am reminded that you will be in every moment. When I am working against a deadline…you are there. When I am frustrated and impatient…you are there. When the work requires more hours than the day offers…you are there. When I feel the hot sun and cool breeze on my face…you are there. When there is food on the table…you are there. When there is a pillow under my head…you are there. When my heart beats and I take a

God is always available

My mom has a neat way of keeping visual reminders of God’s goodness in front of her. My nieces made posters of Bible verses and prayers and posted them on her apartment walls. Mom looks at those colorful blessings and finds strength from God’s Word.  (And of course, she always smiles as she remembers Kelsey and Julia creating the posters!) What about you? Are you looking for a little extra “oomph” in your life? Do you need renewed energy? Do you want to reconnect to God’s presence?

Who needs to change?

[A note from Gaye: Thank you for the guest post, Teri Johnson!] Do you believe others need to change? OR do YOU? For years, I thought everyone else needed to change.  I can remember back in 2002 reading Dr. Phil McGraw’s book, Relationship Rescue.  I needed a relationship rescue in a serious way at the time so the book came in handy.  That was the first time it sunk in for me that I NEEDED to change.  Blaming someone else for my “issues” wasn’t the answer and…
