The Peace-Bringer’s Gift

Merry Christmas! Please take a minute to follow the link in my P.S. to a favorite Christmas note from a couple years ago. It’s a short essay called “Let Me Be the Person.” May it encourage your heart today!

“I’d like to teach the world to sing… in perfect harmony…”
(Remember that ad jingle / song?)

Fun fact here because inquiring minds want to know …

That song began as a phrase on a napkin.
An ad executive saw airport travelers angry and upset over a forced layover. The next morning, he saw his traveling companions talking and joking while drinking Coca-Cola before their flight.
He wrote on the back of a napkin, “I’d like to buy the world a Coke and keep it company.”

Fifty-five years later, we still make the connection between the song, a world of peace, and Coca-Cola.
We hear the first line, and we start humming the tune.

It would be wonderful if peace came that easily, wouldn’t it?

Just sitting in the café drinking Coca-Cola with friends, singing in perfect harmony.
But it doesn’t work that way, does it.

Life can be hard. People can be harsh. We mess up. The weather doesn’t cooperate, and the 24-hour news reminds us that peace is hard to find.

Throw those situations into a pot, stir them up, and you’ve got a tater-tot no-peace hotdish without the tater-tots.

So, what to do, what to do…

What if we (What if I?) remember where our Peace needs to come from?

That brings us to Christmas.

This baby Jesus whose birth we are celebrating is The Prince of Peace.
He offers us all the gifts and promises that give us deep, inner peace: forgiveness, healing, and hope.

When we live in relationship with Him
we can live in harmony with ourselves
and the people in our world.

Dear friend, let’s not miss the Peace-Bringer or the Peace He brings this Christmas season. Invite HIS peace into your heart. Chase out the distractions and kick out the lies. Give Him room to overwhelm you with His presence and peace.

Let Peace and Love frame your opening words of every sentence, response, and greeting. Wrap them around your heart so your presence reflects patience, grace, compassion … and peace.

Let’s listen to each other’s songs and add the harmony that makes the world even more beautiful.

P.S. May your heart be encouraged with this Christmas note! “Let Me Be the Person.”
