Donny Osmond, Words, and Dreams

What a great week! My new book was delivered into the hands of a very smart and gracious editor at 3:30 a.m. Saturday morning. Yippee!

And then on Saturday night I dreamt about the book. Of course! My mind couldn’t shut off “all things book!” Here’s a recap of this very unsettling, but typical dream:

Donny Osmond created a musical based on my book. (OK. Let’s just pause here for a moment. Really? Donny Osmond? And yes, he was wearing a purple tuxedo.) His music would provide the backdrop for the reading of my words. While I read, other performers would sing and dance on stage while the orchestra played. (This was just so far-fetched. But it was Donny O. Who was I to question?)

In my dream, it was opening night. The orchestra was ready. The theater was lit up. Seats were filled. Donny was directing the musicians as they played the overture. I was sitting at his side, staring at him, because … it was Donny. (I can still see the close-up of his face in my dream. It was … amazing. Not a wrinkle or furrow or wayward chin hair to be found.)

Nearing the end of the overture, Donny signaled the orchestra to bring everything they had into the music. His arms rose slowly as the music swelled and I thought my heart would burst. With the musicians performing at their peak in volume and intensity, it was my cue to walk onto the stage.

I stood up and quickly realized I didn’t have my book with me. The book from which I would read my words.

There was no way I could get on that stage. I ran out of the theater, and my dream scene switched to me at home, frantically looking for my book.

And then I woke up. Extremely discombobulated.

Good grief.

Do you have weird dreams like this? Is there a common theme to your dreams? My theme is a swirling mind. It’s usually a signal that I need to take a breath. Slow down. In dreams like this, I’m usually late, or I’ve forgotten something (my book, my speech, directions, a meeting, etc.). Or I’m worried that I’m going to forget to do something or go somewhere and my to-do list runs on replay.

My sister, Lori, said that a psychologist would have a field day exploring this dream. Julie can’t wait to analyze it. I’m sure we will come up with some very important, significant insights as we review every detail over chips and salsa. Steve would like me to take a nap.

I’m just so tickled that I had a dream with Donny O in it. In his purple tuxedo.

May your week be filled with dreams and laughter and surprises of joy! Thank you for being part of this online community. I sure appreciate you.

Always believe that something wonderful is about to happen.
