Trust His Heart

My Planks of Wood

My Facebook profile says I’m 58 years old. Good grief. When did that happen? We each have our own particular response when we think about our ages, right? When my age starts messing with My Happy Place it’s as though my drive down a simple, picturesque country road is rudely interrupted by a flashing neon storm warning sign sitting on a post in the ditch. It threatens my calm, relaxed journey. The message that glares at me?

Hope is more than a word.

Weary From the Words

A lot of words have been spoken in the last couple weeks. Online. News outlets. Entertainment digests. Words about people with hearts and souls who are also very public and visible. The words reflect opinions and values and life experiences about things that matter deeply to many. So much emotion. Many of the words have been respectful and life-affirming. Some of them – too many of them – angry and ugly and judgmental. On all sides of the different topics of today. Sigh. It’s made me sad. You too?

Doing Great Things

Great things. Actions that change someone’s life. That change our communities. That make our hearts smile. Let’s do them, OK? Let’s do Great Things this summer. What does that look like? How do you do that? Those people who said that so strongly and faithfully seemed so…spiritual. Like they had it all figured out. And I didn’t. When my heart was breaking and the tear bucket

Summer is Here!

The Best Version of Me

Blog Alert: This post is a Proud Auntie moment! My niece, Kelsey Charron, has started her own blog. One of her first notes frames my thoughts for these comments. Life. It requires so many decisions, doesn’t it? Family choices about elderly parent’s care. Business choices about direction. Personal choices about priorities. And then it’s time to get out of bed. So as I was thinking last week about what to do, what to do, what to do… Kelsey’s writing reminded me of the importance of who to be, who to

Don’t Think So Hard: Just Do It

The lady with the easy laugh standing next to me chuckled and said… Your feet are flat on the ground, Gaye. You don’t have anything to worry about. We were watching a few of our fellow campers from The Alley Church Retreat navigate across the high cable. Well actually, I had to turn away because looking up at them swaying in the wind made me a bit nervous. Oh. My. Word. To say I was impressed with their courage and strength is putting it mildly. These ladies
