There’s something about a woman’s memoir—the kind that starts with sunshine and ends with strength—that always pulls me in.
I love to read. And memoirs are at the top of my list.
My favorites are typically written by a not-so-young woman whose story reads something like this…
Her life brimmed with hope. Big dreams. Exciting expectations. Blue skies and sun-filled days. She had energy that made skipping in her summer slip-ons easy-peasy.
Then life happened. Dreams dissolved into disappointment. Skipping? Not a chance. She barely had the energy to get through the day.
Next comes the chapter filled with “What if’s…?” What if nothing changes? What if this is as good as it gets? What if I’m stuck here forever?
And then … the best part …
Something shifted—inside and out. A person, a moment, a spark of faith cracked open the heaviness. Maybe it was a doctor, a counselor, a book, a friend, or a quiet whisper from Jesus Himself.
She decided to do something. To crawl out of the rut. To stop letting circumstances write her story.
She chose to begin again.
And as we read, we’re right there with her, right? Cheering her on. Laughing. Crying. Whispering, I want to do that too.
The end of her story reminds us that hard seasons don’t last forever. That grey skies don’t stay as forever-companions. The pain leaves a mark—but also wisdom. Peace. Strength.
Her past didn’t change, but her life did.
Her heart healed. Her spirit was restored.
She decided. And then she did.
This morning, while reading a new favorite memoir, I was reminded …
I’m writing my memoir today.
You are writing yours.
Our stories move through blue skies, grey clouds, dark nights, and back again, right? The key? Keep moving.
We grab onto that flicker of hope. We let the igniting moment in. We choose something different.
We allow God to enter our story in a new way—bringing restoration, rejuvenation, and joy.
We decide. And then we do.
So what if today…
We turned the page?
Grabbed a fresh pen?
Started a new chapter?
There’s an igniter waiting right in front of us. Maybe it’s making amends. Getting healthier. Moving a long-held dream closer to reality. Talking to God again. Forgiving.
Let’s stop waiting and start doing. That one small thing we know we need to do?
Let’s go for it.
Where to begin?
Ask God.
Ask Him for clarity. For courage. For renewed energy.
Ask. Listen. Then move.
Your story’s not over.
Your memoir matters.
It’s a big deal.
Decide. Do.
Begin again.
“This is what God says, the God who builds a road right through the ocean, who carves a path through pounding waves … ‘Forget about what’s happened; don’t keep going over old history. Be alert, be present. I’m about to do something brand-new. It’s bursting out! Don’t you see it? There it is! I’m making a road through the desert, rivers in the badlands.’”
Isaiah 43:16, 18-19 (MSG)
