Take the mercy, accept the help

My friend Kelli is working through significant business issues.
My friend Jacki faithfully sends our church family’s “God Answers Knee-Mail” prayer letter each week.
My friend Mary is struggling with some very disappointing news.
And of course, there are the friends with serious health issues and family needs.

In each situation, I have been asked to join these Girlfriends in prayer…
And I have.

And…

I am sensing the need to pray more compassionately, more focused, and more intentionally for these requests. To really step in and consider the needs and listen for the heart of God. What does that require? Taking more time to “stand in the gap.” This is where the challenge is. The desire to pray is there…it is choosing to say “no” to other things in order to say “yes” to more quiet time with God that will make the difference.

I care deeply about my friends and their needs. A request to pray for a friend is a privilege and responsibility. It only makes sense then, that my priorities and my schedule should reflect this care and commitment. Do they?

Hebrews 4:16 says “Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” Other translations suggest we approach the throne “boldly.” The Message says, “So let’s walk right up to him and get what he is so ready to give. Take the mercy, accept the help.” (Love that!)

The message for me? Pray big. Confidently. Intentionally. In expectation.
Take the time.

This is a week of “big questions.”
As I said on Monday… My thoughts today aren’t intended to provide you with suggestions for living a richer faith-based life.

Today I’m writing as a woman on a faith journey that is sitting on a question. Will you join me in considering this…

Are you boldly approaching God with your prayers for your friends, in complete confidence that he will give them the mercy and help needed?

More to come as we walk together in this journey called life.
