Sleeping through devotions

I have a favorite book to share with you!
A Place of Quiet Rest: Finding Intimacy with God Through a Daily Devotional Life by Nancy Leigh DeMoss.

This book flipped a switch in my head about my quiet time with God.

The most important point I read…
My time alone with God is not an option.

Once I got that, my focus and my intentions changed. Rather than seeing devotions as something to “fit into” my day, they became the foundation on which my day needed to start.

Rather than focusing on what highlighters and journal to use and what Bible reading method to follow, I simply started showing up. And, (not surprisingly!), God was always there waiting for me.

This morning time has changed from duty to delight. From a few “Please bless…” to “Here’s where my heart is today, God.”

I still have so much to learn about this intimate, spirit-encouraging, life-changing time with The One Who Loves Me Most. Even though I’m an early morning person, there have been way too many times that I start my Bible reading and prayer…and wake up 30 minutes later. Good grief.

And yet…I still show up. And in that discipline my faith grows.

My nugget for you today…
Check out Nancy Leigh DeMoss’ book.
It could be just what you need to jumpstart or re-energize your morning routine.
