Facebook and prayers

I’ve begun using Facebook as part of my daily prayers.

A child is in ICU.  A grandmother is living her final days. A cousin has been in a tragic accident.  Whatever the need, I love seeing how others respond to the posting, “Will you pray?”

YesPraying.,..Done…Caring…Right now…”

I pray for people I don’t even know…because a friend asked.

My friend Jacki manages our church’s prayer list each week.  It’s amazing when you think about it.  A few dozen people committed to praying for each person on that list.  It must make God smile.

Maybe you have those “go to” friends whom you reach out to with your requests, needs, and rejoices.  My mom is The Praying Warrior…she just prays her way through the day.  My sisters and I stand in the gap for each other–all it takes is an email, voice mail, or text message. My business colleague, Stephanie, is not only my “Guru for all things technical, design, and marketing,” she is also my friend who prays for me specifically when I am speaking at an event.

These Girlfriends make a difference in my personal life…and my prayer life.

Here’s what I’ve learned…
It is a blessing to be able to ask others to pray for you, in whatever forum you’re comfortable with.  People want to step up and support you.  People care.  So please don’t hide behind pride, or the fear of others knowing that you’re struggling with something.  Because “everyone” knows that “everyone” struggles.  (“Everyone” was used intentionally here…it’s not an overstatement.)  Why pretend you’re the exception?  No one will believe that you are.

Whether it’s a prayer group from church, a virtual note, a list, a phone call, or with a friend on a park bench, our prayers for each other matter.

When two of you get together on anything at all on earth and make a prayer of it, my Father in heaven goes into action.  And when two or three of you are together because of me, you can be sure that I’ll be there.”  (Matthew 18:20 MSG)

Make this your common practice: Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you can live together whole and healed.  The prayer of a person living right with God is something powerful to be reckoned with.”  (James 5:16  MSG)

May I suggest…
If your heart is heavy today, tired, sad, lonely…

Reach out to a Girlfriend and ask her to pray for you. We are meant to be part of a community. There’s a gift and responsibility in that. We are created to love and serve each other.

What prayer can we join with you in today?  Post your request and our online community will stand with you…believing God will answer your prayer perfectly.
