Ending My 3D Bus Ride

Oh, yes. I love the promises that tell us that life will be good—that there is hope—and that a joy-filled life can be ours. Verses from the Good Book like John 10:10 lift my spirits and refresh my soul …

“…I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

And then…
Whaaat? Hold the phone! Really? Are you sure?
I don’t think so! That can’t be right.
My messy reality is riding a different bus than the one traveling on full life avenue!

Discouragement. Disappointment. Discontentment. I’m on the 3D bus that isn’t going to my happy place.

Then I remember…
There’s another part of that verse in John 10:10 …
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy.”

Sad, but true. There is that ugly evil force that does not want us to travel from our messy moments to happy places. This thief wants to make us miserable, and that’s just his first stop. It gets worse from there.

On March 24, 2014, I wrote in the margin of my Bible next to John 10:10: “Steal my time, my health, my priorities, my joy.”

And oh, yes. He sure tries to do that. Know what I mean?

It’s a lesson that keeps popping up in front of me.

Living a joy-filled, rich, full life needs to be intentional. It’s not going to just happen, because there is evil in the world. And that snakey evil one is going to do his best to fill my head and heart with the 3 D’s: discouragement, discontentment, and disappointment. He will steal. Kill. Destroy.

So.
When the journey gets tough and I realize that I’m on the wrong bus, I need to get off. Right away. Pull the emergency cord, ding the bell, and get off bus 3D.  That’s my responsibility. I need to make the choice.

I need to switch buses and change directions. Get on the Express Bus instead. The one that will take me quickly to restored joy and peace. No detours. No potholes. The bus ride with the roadside promises of Hope. Encouragement. Direction. Companionship. Grace.

Evil is real and it destroys. Let’s not give it one moment of victory. Ignore it. Push it behind you. Stop listening to it. Get off that bus.
A full, rich, joyful life can be ours. The Driver of the Express Bus has a seat reserved for us!

We can choose which trip we want to take.
We can get off the bus that gnarls us up in traffic.
I’m going to make that choice today.
Want to ride together?
