Countdown to Christmas

Celebrating the birth of Jesus is sacred.
A holy event.

We celebrate Love. Grace. Sacrifice. Forgiveness.
It is Good.

And in these last couple days of preparing for the event…
We may experience anything but.

What if…
We enter into our family events and parties and church services recognizing that things may not go as planned.

And then…
Instead of moving too quickly from our happy place to frustration, we choose to focus on the bigger picture.

Aunt Gladys isn’t trying to be obnoxious with her words and opinions and critiques.
She brings her full personality to the party – just as you and I do.

The driver in front of you doesn’t know you’re running late for the candlelight service.
He’s probably lost and tired and wishing he wasn’t on the road.

The grocery store wasn’t thinking about messing up your Christmas dinner when they ran out of French fried onions.
It. Just. Happened.

I’m learning that how much I enjoy the get-togethers and family conversations and preparations depends on how I respond to what’s going on around me.

This isn’t the season to make everything about me…to take everything personally.
I can let the not-as-I-planned stuff go. That would be a smart decision.

The bigger picture?
We are celebrating Love. Hope. Peace. Joy.

This is all about Jesus.
I want to try and keep it that way.

Oh come, oh come, Emmanuel.
