Consequences

We can’t hide anything from God.

It’s easy to forget that, isn’t it? Every once in awhile I think that if I I mess up and don’t talk to God about it, He won’t find out. That’s just plain silly.

Why do we do that? I guess it’s like a little kid who has taken a cookie when his mother said “No.” If he runs and hides behind his bunk bed to eat it, he assumes his mom won’t find out. And then everything will be OK.

But God is God. Nothing gets past him. He knows everything.

So here’s what I’ve learned…
When I have sinned, I need to talk to God about it. Confess where I’ve messed up, receive His forgiveness…and move on.  With a very grateful heart.

Psalm 32 describes this just perfectly…the consequences of keeping quiet about my sin, and the freedom that comes in my confession…

“When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was sapped as in the heart of summer. Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, ‘I will confess my transgressions to the Lord’ – and you forgave the guilt of my sin.

What an awesome gift…God’s forgiveness.

Is your conscience telling you something’s wrong? Something that needs to be made right? A heart not right with God? Don’t spend another minute sitting in that guilt and angst. Confess, accept God’s unwarranted forgiveness, and bask in his redeeming love.

We can’t hide anything from God. And that is a good thing.
