Cooking.
One word that makes my palms sweat and my blood pressure rise.
I don’t understand why it puts fear in my heart. It all seems so simple. You simply read from the cookbook and follow the directions, right? But it can throw me into a tailspin! So to break through this fear, I have been working hard to make friends with my kitchen.
And…I’m making progress!
(May I strut my stuff for just a moment here?)
This week my dear friend Jody Lessard gave me a fabulous recipe for a kale salad and another dear friend, Chere Bork, gave me a recipe for chicken/vegetable soup. After a few texts, phonecalls, and emails… the new recipies turned into a new meal! (It’s not that I never cook — I’m just starting to do it with less stress and more enjoyment, and am stepping out of my comfort zone. And Steve still can’t believe I fixed something with kale and a whole chicken.)
Here’s what I’m learning…
There are things in life that scare us, stress us out, or stop us in our tracks.
Some of those things are relatively minor – like knowing what to do with a whole chicken.
Other things have the power to turn our world upside down:
The fear of losing a job, disease, children who have lost their way, financial disaster.
The good news?
God cares about everything.
I Peter 5:7, “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”
(Notice he says “all” your anxiety.)
What’s troubling your heart today?
A work project that’s due? A sick child? Loneliness? A sad heart?
Whatever it is…ask God to wrap His arms around you and give you peace.
Take God at His word.
He cares for YOU…every detail of your life.
