Into the Messiness…Peace

Christmas tea light candleThere was nothing real fancy about the place of Jesus’ birth.

Stables have rarely been voted “Cleanest place in the world to have a baby.”  There was the smell of wet, dirty straw.  Snorting cattle and braying donkeys.  No pillow with the little chocolate mint on top.  And you have to believe that Mary and Joseph would have loved a good, hot shower after a dusty, dirty road trip.

It all seems rather messy, doesn’t it?

It was into this messiness that Jesus came.

Overnights in stables may not be part of our lives.  But messiness is…a medical diagnosis, strained or broken relationships, unemployment, parents who become forgetful, or schedules that run us ragged.

It is into this messiness that Jesus comes.

That’s what we’re thinking about this Christmas.  Messiness happens, and life can feel tough sometimes.

But…it is the birth of this baby Jesus that brings Hope, and Peace, and Comfort into every single moment.
No matter how messy the moment is.

Jesus tells us, Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.  (John 14:27)

What a promise. Jesus meets us, right where we are.
And when He meets us, He brings us Peace.

That’s a wonderful Christmas gift.
