Putting Life Together Again

Who on earth thought this was a great little jingle to read to children?

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
All the king’s horses and all the king’s men,
Couldn’t put Humpty together again.

Really. It’s not cute.
It’s scary.

{I also have a problem with Little Jack Horner who sat in a corner intending to eat a whole pie. He stuck in his thumb and pulled out a plum and decided that eating a pie with his fingers made him a good boy. Good grief.}

But back to Humpty Dumpty…

We usually imagine Humpty as an egg. So his great fall probably resulted in a lot of yolk and shell creating a mess on the sidewalk.
I wonder who called in the king’s horses and the big guys from the king’s brigade?

It’s the same thing we do, right?
When our life feels like an egg that’s cracking…cracked…splattered on the sidewalk…
We try and fix it. On strength that can only go so far.

Like Humpty…The cracks are too many to count and the splattering is just too sticky to deal with. We can’t get the pieces back together again.
And there’s nothing nursery rhyme cute about that.

Why does it take me so long to remember what David wrote…

Some trust in chariots and some in horses,
but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. (Psalm 20:7)

The name of the Lord our God…

Emmanuel (God with us)        The Great Physician               Commander

God Almighty             King of Kings               Lord of Lords

I AM               Mighty God                My Deliverer

THIS is a powerful God.
THIS is the God who I need to fight my battles.
THIS is the God who can pick me off the sidewalk and put me back together again…whole.

My life is not a nursery rhyme.
It is real.

And when my back is against a wall? Or I’ve fallen off and broken into pieces?

I am going to rely on divine strength and wisdom
given by The Most Powerful God.

That is real.
