Name Calling Hurts

Oh, the name calling.
It can be so hurtful, can’t it?

The words that are used to remind us that we didn’t or don’t measure up…
That we are too this or too that…
Words that make us cringe and feel less than.

Sometimes the words come from people who are living in their own messiness.
But more frequently?

They come from our own mouths…directed at our own selves.
Thoughts…whispers…mutterings.

How sad is that.

But…

We are not less than. Anything.

We are Loved.
Forgiven.
Blessed.
A Child of the King of Kings.
A new creation.
Accepted.
Free.

That is truth.

Sometimes our mutterings and sighs focus on our looks, smarts, quirks, struggles…
I’m so stupid, late, forgetful, old, fat, lost…
I look like a wreck, I’m behind in my work, my eyes have bags underneath them that reach to my chin, I’m not living up to my potential (whatever that is!), and I’m just a mess.

Good grief.

When those tapes start to play in that grey mass between your ears, stop.
Just stop what you’re doing.
Choose to play a new tape.

I am Loved.
Forgiven.
Blessed.
Child of the King of Kings.
A new creation.
Accepted.
Free.

Take these words to heart, My Friend.

God tells us, Don’t be afraid, I’ve redeemed you. I’ve called your name. You’re mine… (Isaiah 43:1-2)
There are no “ifs” on his love.
{Note:  He knows YOUR name!}

You are Beautiful. Forgiven. Loved. Accepted.
Period.

A few years ago my friend, Kelli Wommack, provided a guest post here. Her reminder to Please Erase Old Messages is timely once again. You may want to check it out.

And for another really great reminder of who you are, listen to Matthew West’s Hello, My Name Is.
Look it up on YouTube.
It will make you smile.
