Influence That Molds Us

It has all become so annoying.
The yelling.
The posturing.
The intensity.

Republicans. Democrats. Independents.
And all of the media voices, PR folk, and political advisors.

I wish they would Just. Stop. Yelling.

It’s as if they each received a memo that said…
The winner of the argument, debate, promo clips, etc. will be the person who speaks the loudest. Yells the most. Uses the most vocal intensity. And uses the most force when punctuating the air with hand gestures.

It just all seems so wrong.
And sad.

Their messages (important messages!) get lost in the noise and volume.

And you know?
I’ve made the same mistake.

When I care deeply about something, I can get all riled up and focused on trying to make someone listen to me. Because I care so deeply about the issue or the person.
And that rarely works.

For instance…
If I’m trying to help someone see that the choices they’re making are taking them down a really scary path, intense conversations, more volume, and stern words are usually a waste of breath.

My intentions are good…but my methods are wrong.

I need to remember what one of my A-list authors so wisely wrote…

The people who influence us most are not those who buttonhole us and talk to us, but those who live their lives like the stars in heaven and the lilies in the field, perfectly simply and unaffectedly. Those are the lives that mold us.
— Oswald Chambers, My Utmost for His Highest, May 18th

Oh, yes.
To be perfectly simply and unaffectedly.

That is my prayer.
